Last weekend saw our Men's Championship 1 team victorious against Newtown on Saturday, with the tight 3-2 win (Fabian Natoli, 2, Toby Dove, 1) keeping them sitting at a steady number 4 on the league ladder. Both teams started the second half at a level score of 1-1, but our Pirates managed to wrangle a win from the Eagles by putting away another two goals at Clare Street. Shortly afterwards, our Men's Championship team took to the park with Toby Dove putting in a mammoth effort and scoring once again, however the final score rested at 1-3 in favour of the Newtown Eagles.
Sunday saw another couple of unfortunate losses, as well as a forfeit in the Women's Championship 1 game. As our senior women's teams still struggle with playing numbers, a huge amount of gratitude goes out to the Champ 1 players who filled in for the Women's Championship and WSL games instead. At Kelvedon, our Women's Champ team took on a strong outfit of Glenorchy Knights (0-8), while our WSL team hosted the ladder leaders, Launceston United (1-5). Our WSL Pirates put up a brave fight throughout the whole game, and after a great goal by Mei Booker early in the second half it looked for a moment as though the score might swing back our way, however the Northern rivals proved too strong this time around.
