With all of Sunday’s games being washed out, our WSL Pirates played South Hobart in a catch-up round on Wednesday night out at a dim and dusty KGV. After a very unfavourable first half, which saw our team down 3 goals and without any more substitutions due to a few minor game-sustained injuries, our Pirates came out of the change rooms with a battling mindset and finished the game on a strong note. A brilliant attacking run by guest star, Eli Cropp, awarded the team a corner which eventually sent the ball to the feet of Maddy Lane, who chipped the oppositions keeper from the top of the 18 yard box. The late goal wasn’t enough to tip the 1-4 scoreline to our favour, but the small victory was enough to keep our Pirates’ spirits high as they now look to take on another tough opposition this Saturday.

Last Saturday saw our Men’s Championship 1 team face challenging conditions at Wentworth Park against the Clarence Zebras. A strong effort from the team, and Will Darling’s goal, saw a fairly even first half, but the Zebras ultimately took the game 1-4. Keeping the numbers consistent, our Men’s Championship game also ended in a 4-1 scoreline, this time in favour of our Pirates. Oliver Maxwell, Fabian Natoli, Jake Stuart, and Fergus Bridge adding their names to the score sheet, in a game that saw our team dominate the opposition, and solidify a second place ladder spot. They now take on fourth placed University S.C. this weekend, and need a win if they are to keep their ladder standing.

This weekend sees a massive showcase of senior games. Saturday sees Kelvedon hosting a full and exciting day for our Sponsors and Past Players Day, so make sure to get on out and support our teams at home! Sunday sees our Men’s Championship 3 team taking on the league’s bad boys, the Barnstoneworth Scrappers, in the SC3 Cup Grand Final. The last round of the Cup saw our Social Men’s team taking on Kingborough in a game that was nail-biting right till the last minute. The Lions scored in the very last minute of official time to equalise, eventually sending the game to be decided on penalties. Sunday’s showdown at KGV should also be a great game to get out and watch with food and beverage available at the location, so make sure you’re wearing club colours to support the Pirates in their quest for the gold.

Best of luck to all our teams this weekend!
