We hosted a blockbuster lineup last Saturday at Kelvedon, and we have another epic weekend ahead!
Last Saturday saw our Men's Championship Reserves kick off all the weekend action when they took on the New Town White Eagles SC. Tom Roberts opened the scoring only 4 minutes into the game, and our Pirates dominated the remaining 90+ mins, with Toby Dove (3), Toby Fleming (2) and Fergus Fletcher (1) all contributing to the resounding 7-3 smashing. It's early days, but our Ressies are sitting on top of the ladder with 6 points after 2 rounds.
Our Men's Championship Pirates (also taking on a NT Eagles outfit) started the game strong and went into the change-rooms at half time with a 3-1 lead. New import, Ramiro Vilar, showed his Argentinian flair throughout the match, assisting Jasper Gardner's initial goal and later scoring a hat trick. Check out the goal highlights here. We're not sure what's a more impressive show of athleticism - Rami's effectiveness in the final third, or his goal celebrations. Unfortunately, our Pirates left the field with a 4-4 draw, after a late NT goal.
Our WSL squad hosted the Clarence Zebras, who are hot off the back of a Summer Cup GF win. Our Pirates held strong and matched the Summer Cup Champions for the first 76 minutes, but then a flurry of attacks saw them lose the game 0-3. A special mention goes out to Pizzarazzi Player of the Match, Maeve Dunbabin, for her impressive work-rate in defence and shutting down countless attacks.
Sunday saw our Women's Social team at Kelvedon taking on the New Town White Eagles SC. Our resilient Pirates found themselves down to 9 players due to injury, but otherwise the game held many positives including a 6-4 win thanks to a hat trick by Sophie Nash, a brace by Shani Grace Reid, and an additional goal by Julia Mountain. Our Men's Social team travelled out to Tynwald park to take on the New Norfolk Panthers SC. They fought hard to bring the game back from a 2-0 deficit, and a brace by Kaspar Deane allowed our Pirates to nab a point with a 2-2 draw.
This weekend looks to be just as action packed as the last, with all five senior teams playing at Kelvedon this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday sees us hosting a swarm of South Hobart reds and we're hoping to see some victories in the mix, while Sunday sees our Socials teams taking to the park. Make sure you come along, and don't forget we have Taroona FC merchandise fit for the winter months available at the Kiosk! Best of luck to all our Pirates, and wishing a speedy recovery to all our injured players.
