Match Centre

Our games kick off tonight when our Women’s Championship team takes on University FC at Sherburd Park. Fresh legs from a bye last round will hopefully give the Uni Bees a run for their money. Saturday sees our senior Men’s and Women’s teams with tough match-ups, with our WSL squad facing down ladder-leaders, Devonport Strikers, at KGV. Last time the two teams met our Pirates could almost smell victory after an early goal by Madi James, but were overthrown by the visitors in the second half. We’re hoping that with the return of some key players, this week’s battle will be as closely fought but this time with our Pirates being the victorious underdogs!

Our Men’s Championship team is still in contention for the title, so this weekend’s game is a must-win and is bound to be an exciting match. Last week’s victory saw Sam James shine on the field, nabbing a hat trick which places him just 4 goals behind the leading goal scorer. Toby Fleming opened the scoring with his goal 20 minutes into the game. While the Men’s Champ 1 match was a close loss, goalkeeper Ben McTaggart had a fantastic game between the sticks, making some crucial saves and playing a standout 90 minutes.

Sunday saw our Women’s social team losing to a Uni team who was at full force, while our Pirates ended the game with a crew of 10. They put up a strong fight, with correspondent, Shani Mackey, saying: “[the] positive vibes and talk really threw them…[we] absolutely killed it and were so versatile and fought so hard.” In the U18’s match, our young Pirates were able to avenge the WSL senior squad in their prior match up with the Glenorchy Knights (which was lost 0-2). Ruby Jacobson scored in the dying minutes of a nail-bitingly close game, with goalkeeper Chloe Terhell playing magnificently and keeping a well earned clean sheet.

We wish all our teams the best of luck this weekend, let’s make sure to get on out and support our Pirates!
